RESEARCH
A combination of numerical
analysis by the boundary element method and cracked ring specimens under
diametrical loading is presented for determining the fracture toughness
of anisotropic rocks under mixed mode I-II loading. The single domain
BEM formulation which has been proofed with a good accuracy was used to
calculate the SIFs of cracked anisotropic plate. A Taiwan marble with
clear foliation was selected to conduct the cracked ring tests for
measuring the failure load. The mixed mode fracture toughness with
different material inclinations and crack angles can be determined the
result of normalized SIFs which vary with the radius ratio (r),
inclination of isotropic plane (y),
and crack angle (b).
